Infinite: The Convertible Bag That Embraces Change

Maryam Hosseini's Design Fuses Iranian Heritage with Modern Functionality

In the quest for sustainable fashion, Maryam Hosseini unveils 'Infinite', a convertible leather bag that marries the elegance of Iranian architecture with the versatility of origami. This innovative accessory promises to adapt to the ever-changing moods and needs of its user.

Inspired by the intricate geometry of Aali Qapu's dome, 'Infinite' is more than a mere fashion statement; it's a testament to the timeless beauty of mathematics in design. The palace, a jewel of Iranian heritage, has lent its patterns to create a bag that transforms with a series of folds and snaps. This design not only pays homage to the past but also addresses the present's call for adaptability and the future's demand for sustainability.

Unlike the static nature of traditional bags, 'Infinite' boasts at least 40 different configurations, each a reflection of the user's current disposition. This unique feature is made possible through meticulous craftsmanship, combining 96 pieces of high-quality leather and 18 snap buttons. The result is a puzzle-like experience, allowing the owner to shape and reshape the bag to their liking.

The process of bringing 'Infinite' to life involved a blend of advanced technology and traditional handcrafting techniques. The leather components, precisely cut by laser, are mounted on a supple suede base, ensuring that the bag remains durable and elegant through countless transformations. The dimensions of the bag, when unfolded, measure 200 by 400 millimeters, showcasing the careful consideration given to both form and function.

Engaging with 'Infinite' is an interactive experience. The user plays an active role in the design, creating a personal connection with the accessory. This emotional bond is further strengthened by the bag's ability to evolve with the user's changing tastes, ensuring a long-lasting relationship between the product and its owner.

The journey of 'Infinite' began in Tehran, Iran, in February 2023, culminating in its creation in July of the same year. The research behind the design delved into sustainable consumption practices, origami patterns, and the application of Iranian architectural elements in modern design. The challenges faced, such as maintaining the bag's aesthetic appeal while ensuring functionality, were overcome through innovative solutions like the strategic placement of snap buttons.

Recognized for its ingenuity, 'Infinite' has been honored with the Iron A' Fashion and Travel Accessories Design Award in 2024. This accolade acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and integration of industry best practices. 'Infinite' stands as a symbol of design excellence, offering a product that not only serves its purpose but also enriches the user's life with its transformative beauty.
